I always mourn the passing of summer. As a young man, I'd spend my weekends camping at a lake, swimming and just soaking up sun. I always experience a sense of dread as the autumn chill hits after Labor Day. Let's say goodbye to long days and warm night's with Mungo Jerry - a theme from my youth.

Tuesday Toon-Up: No Preview

A bit of an update for the two people who read my blog.

I've not been too active on twitter lately as there's much going on at the office.  For the people who follow me, please forgive me.  When I've nothing to contribute to a conversation, I tend to clam up.  Most of my close associates wish I would contribute less to my day-to-day discussions, but the rain forest needs carbon dioxide.

I'll be traveling next week, so I'll be pulling from my archive and posting older cartoons with some accompanying dialog.  Hopefully, you'll find some of this amusing.

As a few of you may be aware, I was at Strip Con in Dallas a few weeks back.  I needed to sell 67 books to pay for the trip.  I sold two.  Such is life.  So, let's close with the Rolling Stones performing, 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' on the David Frost show.  For some reason, previews aren't appearing in my blog for the last couple of weeks, so the link will take you to the page.  Enjoy!!!

Tuesday Toon-Up: Sleepless

In the 90s, I was reviewing music for my local newspaper when a King Crimson CD arrived in the mail.  I hadn't paid much attention to the band in years.  I was more intrigued by guitarist Robert Fripp's collaborations with artists like Brian Eno and Bowie.  King Crimson's work seemed to have wandered away from song writing and more into improvisational meandering.  

The album was called 'Thrak' and Adrian Belew's contributions piqued my interest again.  This song was on a double live album (BaBoom) that came out shortly afterward.  LOve Tony Levin and love Bill Bruford.  

It's four o'clock in the morning, so this tune seems appropriate.  Enjoy!

Tuesday Toon-Up: Penguin Cafe

Been a while since I posted and I apologize.  Summer has been a bit hectic and I ignored my blog.  

When I feel down in the dumps, I listen to this song.  Most folks will associate it with the film 'Napolean Dynamite.'  The tune is 'Music For A Found Harmonium.'  It was written by Simon Jeffes, creator of the Penguin Cafe musical ensemble.  There's something about the pace of the melody I find uplifting and it puts me in a good mood.  I hope it does the same for you.  Enjoy!

Tuesday Toon-Up: Rancid!

I was late to the party with punk.  I never gave it much attention until the late 90s when my editor at the Reno Gazette Journal gave me a copy of Out Come The Wolves.

This song was the first to catch my atrophied ear and draw me out of my introspective jazz phase and back into the raucous world of rock.  The album is full of great tunes, but this is still my favorite.  Enjoy!

Tuesday Toon-Up: The Who

Sorry I haven't posted in a while.  My 3D life got in the way and I haven't had much to say.  Today's musical pick is The Who in celebration of Roger Daltrey's 67th birthday.  This was Keith Moon's last live performance with the band.  My kid brother and I used to destroy the bedroom furniture listening to Who's Next.  This record was the soundtrack of my youth.  Happy birthday, Mr. Daltrey.  Enjoy!
